We were in central Illinois visiting Kristi, Scott, and Sean for the 4th of July weekend. On Saturday, Kristi, Kitty, and I headed to Effingham to see the Long Ranger. We really enjoyed the movie. It was an exciting movie with plenty of action and very funny, indeed. Johnny Depp makes a very unusual Tonto, and Armie Hammer is the perfect Lone Ranger. If you like entertaining movies that make you laugh out loud, go see this movie.
After the movie, we picked up Scott and headed to Stephen Forbes State Park in Kinmundy, Illinois, for dinner. There is a restaurant there that has a nice view of the marina with good food. We have eaten here before, but it is under new management now and the food is great and the portions are large.
Just as we were stuffing that last few bites into our over inflated stomachs, it started to rain. It was a hard rain complete with thunder and lightning. We were about to draw straws to see who was going to run through the torrent of rain to get the car, when Scott volunteered to get the car. What a great son in law!! I am sure the fact that he drove us to the restaurant had nothing to do with his sacrifice!
As we head back to their house, we spotted a monster rainbow. This was no ordinary rainbow. It had a perfect arch and was so big we couldn't get the entire rainbow in one picture. But, what made it so unusual was it was a double rainbow.
These pictures really don't show the vivid colors and the brightness of the rainbows. But, you can see the second rainbow to the right of the main rainbow.
We all considered ourselves quite lucky to see a double rainbow from end to end, with two complete arches. Since there were two rainbows, there must be two pots of gold out there, right? But, I'd have to hop a barbed wire fence and run for miles through a muddy field with chest high corn....humm...excuse me while on get my boots on!
