Celebration in Celebration, Florida

Friday, September 19, 2014

Thirty four years ago from tomorrow, Kitty and I were married in Kentucky.  Today, we decided to celebrate our anniversary a day early and meet Glen and Laura in Celebration, Florida.  Why did we decide to meet in Celebration?  Well, it's a unique place loaded with shops and restaurants, and it's located about half way between our respective homes.

Celebration really isn't a town, it's an unincorporated community that was designed by Walt Disney Company utilizing world-renowned architects as well as city and social planners.  Construction began in 1994.  It has a compact down town area, diverse housing, plenty of public space, and is just minutes from Disney World.

We enjoyed a Cuban style lunch at the Columbia Restaurant and spent much of the afternoon enjoying many of the quaint little shops and dodging rain drops.  We know from experience that the fudge shop has excellent fudge!  The weather was the main reason why I wasn't able to take a lot of pictures.  But, here's what I was able take.

Lake Side Promenade Fountain with the Celebration Hotel in the background.

The fountain has three rings of water jets that are programmed to spurt in a random pattern.  You could actually stand in the middle of the fountain and we saw several brave soles getting their picture taken while standing in the middle of the fountain.  I tried to get Kitty to stand in the middle while I took her picture, but she refused!  I have no idea why!  But, I did heard her mumble something about not wanting to start a wet tee shirt contest!

Despite the rain, we had a great time and plan to meet here again.  Hopefully, the rain will hold off next time so we can enjoy more of the amenities of this amazing little community.
