Vero Beach , Florida is Being Invaded!

Friday, January 4, 2013

Anytime someone in Ancient Oaks RV Resort mentions food and ocean in the same sentence, you immediately have our undivided attention.  So, when someone mentions going to Vero Beach and eating at the Ocean Grill, it was a race to see who get to the cars first.  Some quick math (on a calculator) told us that all eight of us could not fit into one car.  Two cars would be needed to comfortably accommodate us.  Whenever we have more than one vehicle going somewhere, we always put gals and guys in separate vehicles.  Barry is driving the guys and Kitty is driving the gals.

Our route would take us north from Okeechobee on highway 441 to Yeehaw, then east on highway 60 takes directly into Vero Beach.  Our first stop was at the Vero Beach Outlet Mall. There's all types of stores here with something for even the most discrete shoppers.  Being the considerate husbands we are, we turned the wives loose and told them to get whatever they wanted to buy!  Money was no object as long as they kept their spending under ten dollars!  Of course, all they heard was money was no object!  We read in the paper the next day that sales at the Vero Beach Mall jumped 20% that day!  Ha!

Now that the shopping was done, it was time to head to the Ocean Grill for a lunch. The Ocean Grill is a great restaurant right on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.  There's also a gift shop, a nice beach, and great views of the ocean.  After a short wait, we had a table large enough for all eight of us.  Our waitress was very nice and gave us extra good service when she found out we were from her favorite state, Kentucky.  The food was great and we all saved a little room for dessert, which would be our next stop.

Here's a shot of all of us outside.

Next, a short drive to Rita's Custard for dessert.  You can tell by these pictures that the custard was great!

Either Ted really likes his custard, or he just had another great idea!

After Rita's, the gals went to a fabric store and the guys stopped at a couple of music shops before heading back to the ranch!  It was another great day in South Florida filled with fun, food, friends, and laughs.  If I had a dollar for every time we laughed, I could retire!  Oh...that's right, I'm already retired and loving every minute!
